Title I Programs Can Help

Children do better in school and feel better about themselves

Teachers understand the needs and concerns of students and parents

Parents understand their child and become more involved in their education
What is a Title I School?
Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding (Title I dollars) to supplement the school’s existing programs. These funds are used for:

Identifying students experiencing academic difficulties and providing timely assistance to help them meet the State’s content standards
-
Purchasing supplemental staff, programs, materials, and supplies
-
Conducting parental involvement meetings, trainings, and activities
-
Recruiting, hiring, and retaining highly qualified teachers
Being a Title I school also means family engagement and parents’ rights.
Title I Funds
-
Any district with a Title I allocation exceeding $500,000 must set aside 1% for parental involvement.
-
Of that 1%, 10% may be reserved at the district level for system-wide initiatives.
-
The remaining 90% is distributed to all Title I schools for family engagement.
-
Parents have the right to be involved in how this money is spent.
School-wide Assistance
-
Reduce class size in math, science, and social studies for more one-on-one instruction
-
Provide additional remediation and support for struggling students
-
Ongoing professional learning for staff in data analysis, instructional strategies, assessments, and rigor
-
Parent facilitator operates the parent center, provides workshops, and conducts outreach to increase involvement

Parents can reach staff via phone, email, school visits, Parent Facilitator, or Family Engagement Contact

Parents are invited to scheduled parent-teacher conferences

Teachers communicate regularly via calls, emails, and weekly reports

Events like Curriculum Night, RTI, and IEP meetings provide additional opportunities for discussion
